Sony A-mount lenses on E-mount cameras
Sony's LA-EA3 and LA-EA5 adapters fit A-mount (Minolta and Sony DSLR) lenses to E-mount cameras. Lenses with their own focus motor autofocus through either; screw-drive lenses need the LA-EA5 and a camera Sony lists for it.

Three things: the lens's motor (SSM and SAM lenses carry one; older lenses are driven by a screw from the body), the adapter (only the LA-EA5 has a screw drive) and the camera (Sony lists which bodies drive screw-drive lenses through the LA-EA5). Sony publishes a page for each camera and adapter, and says plainly that “restriction of the functions are different depend on the lens variation”:

A-mount DT lenses (Sony's APS-C DSLR lenses) frame as they did on an APS-C DSLR, 1.5 times their focal length. Full-frame A lenses do the same.
