How these picks are made
- Everyday and travel: a zoom from about 28 mm to at least 70 mm equivalent, lightest first.
- People and portraits: the brightest prime framing like 70–135 mm that weighs under 300 g.
- Wide scenes and rooms: the widest zoom under 600 g, lightest on a tie.
- Distant subjects: reach of at least 300 mm equivalent under 1.5 kg, longest reach per gram.
- Close-up and macro: life-size (1x) or more, lightest first; otherwise the highest magnification.
- Low light: f/1.4 or brighter framing like 35–60 mm, lightest first.

What the picks frame
Before you buy
- 42 of these 62 lenses weigh more than the EOS R50 V itself (370 g with battery and card). With those, you carry the camera by the lens.
- The EOS R50 V has no in-body stabilisation, so 23 of these 62 lenses (those without lens stabilisation) rely on shutter speed alone.
- 44 of the 62 are made for full-frame cameras. They fit and work; they are usually larger and heavier than an APS-C lens with the same view.
Memory card and battery for the EOS R50 V
What to buy with it, and what to do in the first hour.
Memory card
One card slot, SD with the UHS-II bus. Any SDXC UHS-II card works for photos; a UHS-II card clears long bursts faster, and a UHS-I card still works at UHS-I speed. For 4K video, use a card rated V30 or faster.
Battery
LP-E17: about 480 shots using the screen per charge by the CIPA test. It charges inside the camera over USB-C (switched off), so a spare battery and a power bank cover a long day.
The first hour
- Charge the LP-E17 fully before the first outing (in the camera, over USB-C, or in a charger).
- Insert the card, then format it in the camera: Menu, then the card or set-up tab, then Format. Copy anything on it first; formatting erases it.
- Set the language, date and time; the date goes into every photo's file.
- Fit the lens: line up the mount marks, turn until it clicks. Release by pressing the lens button.
- Take a test shot and play it back before you set off.
How big the EOS R50 V is
Drawn to one scale from Canon's published width, height and depth.

EOS R50 V lens questions
Can I use full-frame lenses on the EOS R50 V?
Yes. 44 of the 62 lenses here are made for full-frame Canon RF cameras and mount directly on the EOS R50 V. On this APS-C sensor they frame 1.6 times tighter than their focal length: a 50 mm lens frames like 80 mm.
Can I use my old Canon EF or EF-S lenses on the EOS R50 V?
Yes, with one of Canon's EF-EOS R mount adapters. Autofocus and image stabilisation keep working with Canon's EF and EF-S lenses; the adapter adds about 110 g and 24 mm. What the EF to RF adapter keeps
Do RF-S lenses also work on full-frame Canon RF cameras?
Yes. Canon's full-frame EOS R bodies accept RF-S lenses and switch to an APS-C crop automatically, so the lens keeps working if you move up to full frame later.
Which memory card does the EOS R50 V take?
One slot: SD, UHS-II. For 4K video use a card rated V30 or faster.
Does the EOS R50 V charge over USB?
Yes. The LP-E17 charges inside the camera over USB-C while the camera is off.
Does the EOS R50 V have in-body image stabilisation?
No. Stabilisation comes from the lens: 39 of the 62 lenses here have it.
