To use 46 mm-thread lenses with larger filters you already own, a step-up ring screws into the lens and takes the larger filter: 46–49 mm, 46–52 mm, 46–55 mm. 46–49 mm ring 46–52 mm ring 46–55 mm ring
Filters smaller than 46 mm (39 mm, 40.5 mm, 43 mm) need a step-down ring, which darkens the corners on most lenses; we do not suggest it. Smaller-thread lenses can use 46 mm filters through a step-up ring: 39 mm lenses, 40.5 mm lenses, 43 mm lenses.
