Which card for what you shoot
- Photos: any SDHC or SDXC card works; the camera's UHS-I bus sets the top speed.
- Long bursts: a faster card empties the camera's buffer sooner, so you wait less after a burst.
- Video: Rated V30 (UHS Speed Class 3) or faster for 4K.
Format it in the camera
Format a new card in the a6400 before the first shot: Menu, then the card or set-up tab, then Format. Copy anything on the card first; formatting erases it.

Questions about the card
Which memory card does the a6400 take?
One card slot, SD / Memory Stick with the UHS-I bus. Any SDXC UHS-I card works for photos; a UHS-II card works too, at UHS-I speed. For 4K video, use a card rated V30 or faster.
Does the a6400 take UHS-II cards?
A UHS-II card fits and works, but the a6400's slot has the UHS-I bus, so it runs at UHS-I speed. A good UHS-I card is enough.
Does the a6400 have two card slots?
No, it has one card slot. On the same mount, the FX30 has two.
