Lenses for low light on APS-C cameras

An f/1.4 lens lets in about eight times the light of a kit zoom at f/4, so you can keep a faster shutter speed and a lower ISO indoors and at night. Here is every lens at f/1.4 or brighter on each system.

The rule: lenses at f/1.4 or brighter; sorted brightest, then lightest.

What the numbers tell you

Each full f-stop doubles the light: f/1.4 is three stops brighter than f/4 and about four stops brighter than a kit zoom at f/5.6. Indoors, that turns 1/15 s (blurred) into 1/125 s (sharp people). The cost is depth of field: at f/1.4 and two metres, the sharp zone is a few centimetres to a few tens of centimetres deep, so focus has to land on the eye.

In-body stabilisation helps with still subjects at slow speeds; it does not freeze people moving. For that, the bright aperture is what helps.

Questions

How are these low light lenses chosen?

By one rule from the published numbers: lenses at f/1.4 or brighter; sorted brightest, then lightest. No lens is paid to appear, and none is left out for having no Amazon listing.

Which of these fits my camera?
